Bachelor of Counselling,CCAA,PACFA (reg)

The underlying framework of my counselling practice is person-centred, which recognises that every person is an important and valuable individual with their own needs and desires, creativity, aspirations, cultural and spiritual viewpoints, and life experiences. My integrative counselling approach is adaptive for individual needs.

I work from a trauma-informed basis, incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-focused therapy into my practice.

The goal of CBT is to identify, challenge, and change irrational and unhelpful thoughts that lead to problematic and distressing behaviours, to more helpful beliefs and behaviours resulting in healthier responses and life choices.

I utilise Narrative Therapy to help people rewrite negative stories about themselves which have shaped their identity and mindsets, to alternate hope-filled stories for their present and future that reflect their dreams, purpose, values, skills, and goals. I work in collaboration with clients in the strength-based approach of Solution-focused therapy to help them focus on finding their solutions to confronting difficult life situations.

I have a particular interest in helping women through the varying stages of their life, including marriage and relationships, infertility, motherhood, post-natal depression, empty nest, divorce, loss and grief.

I use a multitude of counselling methods, which include CBT, REBT, ACT, Narrative, SFT, EFT, and Existential.

However, I need to first understand you by building trust and may employ another. You are a person, not a problem to be solved. My first goal is to know you, then we can work together to find an approach that works for you.

I’m very interested in the experiences and background that have shaped your life. Ultimately, I aim to support your overall well-being, which aligns with your unique life and values, and that requires cultural sensitivity and awareness.

Change takes time but counselling offers ways of thinking about problems that support change over time. If you find that there aren’t small, consistent changes occurring for you, I openly welcome your feedback. I will partner with you and check in with you regularly to ensure we are working in a way that fits with your needs.

I am deeply passionate about guiding individuals toward a sense of acceptance, wholeness, and self-understanding. I work with those facing challenges related to identity, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. With a particular focus on supporting survivors of child sexual, physical, and mental abuse, as well as those trapped in abusive situations, I bring empathy and evidence-based interventions to each journey. I see myself not merely as a guide, but as a fellow traveller with a commitment to uncovering the individual strengths and unique qualities that each person possesses.

By combining a compassionate, Christian-based worldview with evidence-based interventions, I empower individuals to embrace transformative change within themselves and carry this forward to the world around them.

On a personal note, I am a wife, a mother of five—including a married child—and a proud grandmother. I embarked on my journey of study after my own children entered school, enriching my ability to support others. I cherish the belief that every individual is unique and immensely valuable, and I remain dedicated to helping people navigate the path to recovery, growth, and empowerment.

As a trauma-informed and person-centred counsellor, it is my priority to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can feel genuinely heard and understood, no matter what your issue or viewpoint is. My goal is to create a space for support, reflection and healing.

In my counselling sessions, I use an integrated model that focuses on narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and, if appropriate, psychoeducation. Narrative therapy helps reframe limiting stories from the past, while solution-focused work encourages movement toward your preferred future. Psychoeducation helps us to learn more about ourselves.

It is often through understanding ourselves and others better that change is made possible. Some people say that they prefer these frameworks to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and evidence suggests that they can support meaningful and lasting change. I take a systemic approach in my work with couples and families and lean on the approaches developed by John and Julie Gottman to support meaningful change.
